Uti was born in Palembang, Indonesia, in 1989. She grew up in Palembang and Jakarta, but now she lives permanently in Jakarta. She was a transnational law graduate from the biggest public university in Indonesia. She had worked in numerous legal positions, both private and public sector. Armed with her private experiences, she is currently lending her skills in policy-making for the creative economy sector. She is a licensed barrister.
In 2014, Uti co-founded Lembaga Bantuan Hukum dan Advokasi Trisakti Indonesia, a legal aid institution focusing on pro bono legal assistance for those who can’t afford it. She also co-founded Klikonsul, an entertainment law & business consulting group, fulfilling her law school dream of being an entertainment lawyer, an unrecognized branch of law in Indonesia, thus marking a new era for Indonesian entertainment industry.
Uti alternates between reading and writing in her spare time. Her short story entitled “Semua Tutup” was published in 2013, but she thinks it lacks in quality, that’s why she rarely talks about it. Recently, she tries to stop reading for a bit, so she can write and get published properly.
Additionally, Uti is on the internet a lot. She tries not to claim herself a geek, but she can’t deny she’s emotionally invested in a lot of fandoms. Her experience in music fandoms has led her to several concert productions, turning her hobby into a profitable one in the form of FanTix ID. She likes to think she’s technology savvy due to her more-than-average Google knowledge and many social media accounts.
Uti’s interest includes science fiction, fantasy, SHINee, and beer. She’s mostly seen in cheap bars, but you have to look for her behind the cigarette smoke. She’s never won significant prizes. She wants to spend her life writing.
